Hotel Brunnen flirts with you from the moment you stroll in. The reception is like an expensive drawing room, stuffed with Persian rugs, mirrors, and antiques from both the early and the mid-20th century. Hodgepodge, yes, but it's a romantic hodgepodge. Located pension-style above retail shops, Brunnen Hotel has a real pension feeling.
Best of all, the 40 rooms themselves outclass the aesthetically ambitious reception. Pale hardwood floors, vast windows, and spacious rooms are the rule here. If possible, request a corner room, where you'll be able to take advantage of the luxurious light during long summer nights. All rooms have private bathrooms, and some rooms have antique porcelain fireplaces.
Hotel Brunnen is a good value for pricey Stockholm. Well situated in the center of Vasastaden, its clientele extends to both businesspeople and tourists. The young staff could be a tad more polished, but you can't have everything.
