Let us explain why we recommend Niki. The hotel's truly central location is near Syndagma Square in Plaka, on the quaint Nikis. This is one of Plaka's loveliest busy streets, where cute cafés and hole-in-the-wall restaurants abound. Despite the hopping restaurant rows and ancient sites nearby, there are happily no tourist traps here.
Niki's 23 rooms are tidy, streamlined, modern affairs. Wall-to-wall brown carpets provide an earthy nuance. Bedside tables are complemented by polka-dotted lampshades. Bathrooms are up-to-the-minute, with those clear glass shower dividers we love so much. Just five rooms have balconies, so be sure to make a special request if you're especially balcony-crazed.
The hotel itself is one of the most inviting and well-designed we came across in Athens. The entryway is bright and an inviting lounge area adjoins the reception. Lastly, we enjoyed seeing the hotel with Virgo, the engaging and straightforward Hotel Niki receptionist.

About the Niki neighborhood
Plaka is the heart of tourist Athens. Its dense, atmospheric alleys are packed with tavernas, tourist traps, and gorgeous ancient structures. Adrianou is the main strip, but the highly touristed nature of Plaka permeates most corners of the neighborhood. While its main characteristic is its tourist-oriented nature, those committed to hunting around will find a comfortable few blocks of stylish cafés, specialty shops, and government buildings tucked in between the tourist shops, churches, and ancient sites. Plaka is closest to the Syntagma metro station, which is located beneath Syntagma Square.
