The two-star Hotel Wanda could use some updating, but its location on the less-touristy Via Ghibellina (close to the Church of Santa Croce), makes this a sure pick for those wanting cheap rooms with peace and quiet, and surroundings that are definitively day-to-day Florence.
Once inside, the place seems practically soundproof, a far cry from the noise of shoppers downstairs. We give Hotel Wanda more than her two stars for interior design. Seven rooms feature ceramic floors, mirror-inlaid walls and a total hodgepodge of furniture, which include charmingly ridiculous wall-attached headboards. Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and television.
Bathrooms are small, with checkerboard tiles and good, sturdy appliances. Some rooms have private baths. Those that share a bathroom down the hallway have in-room sinks.
While the Wanda’s décor is decidedly loud, the quiet hood should ensure that you'll enjoy a calm, restful night's sleep at this friendly hotel.

Via Ghibellina 51
Santa Croce, Florence, Italy
About the Wanda neighborhood
Named for the Santa Croce cathedral, which marks the center of this neighborhood, the south end of Santa Croce borders the Duomo and swarms with tourists. The piazza itself is actually a popular spot for Florentines to meet, chat and then head elsewhere for to eat. Parallel streets behind the church are relatively quiet. Head north-east to Sant'Ambrogio, where Florence feels hipper, younger, and much more real.
