Situated among some fancy hotels just north of Hyde Park, the 25-room Caring Hotel gives guests the same great location for a lot less money. We liked Rasheed, the energetic soul manning the front desk, right away. He showed us around as he was taking care of hotel business, from polishing the front desk to wiping down framed Tube maps.
Indeed, the sparkling rooms were clearly subject to the same care as the lobby and foyer. Though the furniture was a little dated, namely circa 1978, it was also clean and cozy. Sure, the peach-and-white color combo reminded us of a beachside bungalow, but the beautifully designed windows made of thick glass and circular patterns of wrought-iron took us back to London.
And be sure to keep your eyes peeled for odd items, such as faux horse-hair rugs and a large, old-fashioned scale in the upstairs hallway. The Caring is peppered with them.
Note: The Caring gets some noise from the street. Ask ahead for a room toward the back.
