An anonymous two-star hotel in a great location not known for its affordable digs, the Union Square Inn may not be the first place you'd write home about, but it is a steady mid-range hotel with decent nightly rates.
The inn’s 47 rooms are minimally furnished in neutral colors with framed reproduction artwork. We saw a recently renovated room with a shiny paneled floor and, in a surprising design twist, a kicky bedside lamp. All rooms have private bathrooms that are adequate, though a bit dated, with tiles of varying shades. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, cable TV and telephones.
The hotel is a member of the small New York Inns Hotel Group, a chain of very similar midrange hotels that includes Murray Hill Inn, another EuroCheapo pick.
A continental breakfast is included. Wi-Fi is available for a charge. We highly recommend requesting a room away from the street, as 14th Street can get noisy.
Note: This hotel was visited by a EuroCheapo editor and is recommended based on cleanliness, location, price and overall quality. EuroCheapo did not charge this hotel to be listed.

About the Union Square Inn neighborhood
Once the provenance of political rallies and drug pushers, Union Square underwent a complete overhaul in the '80s and is now lined by trendy restaurants and giant chain stores, and hosts its own farmers' market four days a week. Gramercy is an upscale area lined with elegant Victorian-style townhouses, and is home to the serene Gramercy Park, built in 1831. From here, it's an easy walk to the East Village, Greenwich Village, and the Garment District.
