For a one-star hotel, the Hotel Galleria sure gets its location right. The hotel is right next to the Academia Bridge and offers 10 rooms, all boasting views of either the Galleria dell'Accademia (Venice's most important art museum), the Rialto bridge, or the Grand Canal.
The Galleria is a sweet old place with antique furnishings, creaky hardwood floors, and no television in sight. We found the "regular" doubles a bit too tight for our tastes (one was positively comical—you had to squeeze yourself around the bed to view the canal), though if you can pay just a bit more, you can score a "Big Double." We say: seriously consider it.
Breakfast is served in your room.

About the Hotel Galleria neighborhood
Located across the Accademia Bridge from San Marco, Dorsoduro is the largest neighborhood in Venice, not to mention the centuries-old home to starving artists and romantic hipsters. Ha! Dorsoduro boasts the Accademia art museum, the Peggy Guggenheim museum, numerous galleries and waterfront cafés. The University Ca’ Foscari is smack dab in the middle of the 'hood; the city’s late night scene is clustered around Campo Santa Margherita.
