The classy 82-room Commodore Hotel, on a square just north of Kensington Gardens, is a bit of splurge. Like many of its neighbors, the Commodore resides in a Victorian era townhouse. The difference here is that the period style continues onto the interior.
The Commodore's elegant lobby is filled with antiques and decorated in a tasteful palette of rich fabrics: marigold yellow walls, an ornate fireplace, and chandeliers with matching wall sconces add to the stately ambiance.
Rooms present a mix of classic and modern styles: some have sleek leather chairs, while others are mostly antique-inspired. Televisions are decently sized (enough with the tiny tubes, London!), and all rooms are stocked with a minibar and high-speed Internet access. Rooms with air-conditioning, an outside terrace, or bathtub are available (request ahead). If you don't mind dishing out, we recommend upgrading to a room with a four-poster bed.
The Commodore's Lancaster Gate Restaurant, serving a mix of international and Mediterranean cuisine, is open for lunch and dinner. As for location, the hotel is between the Lancaster Gate, Bayswater, and Queensway Tube Stations. Paddington is not much of a hike away.
