Each year, a whopping 5.5 million people visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese in New York City. Located along Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, just across the street from Rockefeller Center, the cathedral is an impressive sight to behold, done up in the American Gothic Revival style.
St. Patrick’s is made of brick and marble and was completed in 1878, although its famous pipe organ wasn't installed until 1927-1931. The cathedral‘s structure is known for its pointed ribbed vaults and an inspiring set of gilded, carved doors, not to mention the stained glass windows. It also boasts an impressive crypt, where several candidates for sainthood are entombed.
