The Hôtel des Alliés is your basic no-frills, one-star budget hotel popular with shoestring travelers and visiting academic types (the Curie Institute is right around the corner).
The 38 rooms have industrial gray carpeting and minimal wood furnishings, brightened by red or blue bedspreads and yellow, peach or pale blue wallpaper. What makes the hotel remarkable are the spotless, sparkling bathrooms and spaciousness of the rooms, particularly the triples.
For those on the tightest of budgets, the cheapest rooms have just a sink, with access to showers down the hall for €2.50. The new glass elevator, 24-hour reception, and free fax and Internet station in the lobby are other touches that are rarely found in hotels in this price range.
There is no breakfast served, but even if there was you would probably want to eat at one of the many bakeries, pastry shops or cafés along the Rue Mouffetard market street, just two minutes away on foot. At the top of Rue Mouffetard are the popular student pubs and international restaurants of Place de la Contrescarpe. Ten minutes on foot and you're at the Port Royal RER B station with direct service to both Paris airports.
The reception staff are friendly and genuinely helpful in recommending nearby sights and restaurants. This hotel is the perfect alternative to the city's pricey youth hostels, and you won't have to worry about lockout or snoring dorm-mates!
