The Hotel Alfa, a family-operated hotel now in its third generation of ownership, is situated just north of the main train station. Though parts of the hotel underwent a renovation in early 2005, Alfa's 78 rooms are for the most part unremarkable. Red carpets, floral motifs, and big wide beds are the ticket at the Alfa.
That said, Hotel Alfa's rates are extremely reasonable. The handful of single rooms that don't have showers are especially inexpensive. If all this doesn't pull you in, perhaps the old Bavarian reception, complete with a statue of Jesus on the cross and art deco influences, will. Should further inducements be required, be sure to check out the bar's large-scale, illuminated photographs of tropical beaches.
Note that rooms with shared facilities have neither telephones nor minibars, but the huge variety of breakfast options more than makes up for the lack of those tiny minibar treats.
