Upon entering the Jazz on the Park hostel, you might think you've stumbled into a gallery. However, you've simply found the hottest hostel this side of the Atlantic. Walls are adorned with artwork donated after in-house exhibits or used in lieu of payment by a few former guests. And the café is the hippest we've happened upon during our Manhattan hostel search: bright and multi-colored with exposed brick and plenty of bossa-nova beats.
The dorms are every bit as vibrant, painted with the most brilliant pigments on the palette. Private rooms are available at a second property on 105th Street. Here the vibe isn't quite as exuberant, although the room rates will make the Cheapo heart leap.
Manager Pablo and his staff do their best to keep things lively, organizing pub crawls and hosting BBQs. The café has a BYOB policy. And, don't forget, Central Park is a stone's throw away.
