Decked out with candelabras, original art, antiques and palm trees, the polished but handsomely rustic Hôtel Europe Saint Séverin flaunts a romantic medieval vibe from top to bottom. Though it’s situated in the lively heart of the Latin Quarter, near Place Saint-Michel and a slew of aromatic Greek restaurants, inside the two-star hotel the noise of crowds and crashing plates fades oh, so quickly.

Upstairs, the Saint Severin's small but cozy 59 rooms are well dressed with exposed wooden beams and stone, artistically balanced with shiny modern headboards, night tables and desks. The rooms exude a spa-like ambiance and are equipped air conditioning, a flat-screen television, telephone and mini-fridge. The immaculate bathrooms sparkle, and bathtubs are available.

Insider tip: Two (slightly pricier) rooms have small private balconies—prime people-watching spots especially at l’heure bleue (twilight). That said, light sleepers should book a room facing the courtyard. (Make special requests in advance, and book early, as the hotel books up quickly. For that extra-special splurge, the hotel also offers two suites with Jacuzzi tubs.

Breakfast is offered for €12. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel for a €3 per day fee.
