The trendy two-star Hotel Europe Saint Severin fits the bill if you're looking for an incredibly convenient option in the heart of the Latin Quarter.
Pros: Stylish and well kept rooms. Incredible location just off Place Saint-Michel. Romantic respite. Air conditioning.
Cons: Books up quickly. Can be fairly expensive.
Decked out with candelabras, original art, antiques and palm trees, the polished but handsomely rustic Hôtel Europe Saint Séverin flaunts a romantic medieval vibe in the bullseye of the Latin Quarter.
Though it’s in the liveliest part of the Latin Quarter, near Place Saint-Michel and a slew of aromatic Greek restaurants, inside the two-star hotel the noise of crowds and crashing plates fades oh, so quickly.
Upstairs, the Saint Severin's small but cozy 59 rooms are well dressed with exposed wooden beams and stone, artistically balanced with shiny modern headboards, night tables and desks. The rooms exude a spa-like ambiance and are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen television, telephone, mini-fridge and free Wi-FI.
The immaculate bathrooms sparkle, and bathtubs are available.
Insider tip: Two (slightly pricier) rooms have small private balconies—prime people-watching spots especially at l’heure bleue (twilight). That said, light sleepers should book a room facing the courtyard. (Make special requests in advance, and book early, as the hotel books up quickly.) For that extra-special splurge, the hotel also offers two suites with Jacuzzi tubs.
Breakfast is offered for €12. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
Another word or two about the hotel’s location is justified. The spot, less than a block from the Place Saint-Michel, will wow most of our readers by its sheer convenience. It’s minutes by foot to Notre Dame, the shops and restaurants of the Latin Quarter, and the Metro (and RER to Charles de Gaulle).
However, others will turn up their noses at the touristic vibe of the neighborhood. Most of the restaurants nearby are made for (and cater almost exclusively to) tourists. These readers might want to consider a quieter spot, like the Hotel des 3 Colleges.
Still, the Saint Severin's location is undeniably fun, lively, and always easy to access. You’re literally in the center of Paris.
