The Hilton New York is so enormous its lobby takes up an entire block along Sixth Avenue. This polished three-star boasts nearly 2,000 guest rooms and 57 convention rooms, making it the largest convention hotel in the city.
The vast lobby is a vision of gold light and marble floors, bustling with business people, young couples, tour groups from Omaha, and polished travelers from around the world.
Spacious guest rooms are attractively decorated in classic "Old European" style. They really are top quality, with their rich, regal color schemes, abundant curtains, classic furniture, and sweeping city views. Rooms have most every amenity imaginable. And the bathrooms are fresh and well-equipped with large mirrors and sinks.
This 44-floor Hilton, built in 1966, recently underwent an $85 million renovation. Rooms and the lobby were spruced up and new conference areas, two restaurants, two bars, and an 8,000-square-foot health club and spa were added to the hotel. Of the 44 floors, only two allow smoking. As a result, the place feels so fresh you may just have to slap it.
