The appeal of the simple and welcoming two-star Hotel Centro stems partly from its brilliant location, just steps from the San Lorenzo market, and partly from Francesco, its charming young proprietor.

The Hotel Centro, coincidentally located above the Centro supermarket on the bustling Via dei Genori, consists of 16 rooms ranging from well-equipped doubles to more utilitarian quads. The décor is dominated by simple furniture and navy-and-gold striped bedspreads with matching chairs. Ceilings are pleasantly high and large windows let in a lot of light. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite television and free Wi-Fi.

Most bathrooms are private, though a few cheaper rooms share facilities. While some bathrooms show signs of age, the majority have been recently renovated and sport large modern tiles.

Common areas are welcoming. The small TV lounge is also stocked with magazines and guidebooks in every language. A breakfast buffet, included in the room rate, is served in a small yellow breakfast room with a café flair.
