These are our favorite hotels in Paris, by category:
Best Super Cheapo
Hotel Tiquetonne (Doubles: €60)
Located just north of Chatelet, the Hotel Tiquetonne is fabulous, creaky and old-fashioned, offering 45 simple but clean rooms at very low rates. Frequently fills up. (No online booking -- call to reserve)
Hotel du Commerce (Doubles: €54 - €74)
A hotel-hostel hybrid, the one-star Hotel du Commerce offers simple rooms in a former convent in a prime Latin Quarter neighborhood. (Bookable online)
The Hotel Esmeralda is a funky hotel with a great location.
Delhy's Hotel (Doubles: €63 - €86)
Situated just off the Place Saint Michel on a tiny pedestrian-only street, Delhy's is a one-star Cheapo, offering 21 simple rooms in a 16th-century building. (No online booking -- call or email to reserve)
Hotel Eber Mars (Doubles: €107 - €190)
Offering charming rooms and friendly management near the base of the Eiffel Tower, the Eber Mars continues to charm us every time we visit. Currently, half the rooms are cheaper "standard" rooms, while "deluxe" rooms are pricier. (Bookable online)
Hotel Esmeralda (Doubles: €95-110)
A one-star wonder, situated directly across the Seine facing Notre Dame, the Esmeralda offers 16 funky and fun rooms with storybook charm. While the location will wow anyone, those looking for a "standard" hotel experience should look elsewhere. (No online booking -- call or email to reserve)
Grand Hotel du Loiret (Doubles: €80 - €100)
Located smack in the center of the Marais, the Hotel du Loiret makes a convenient and affordable jumping off point for sightseeing, restaurants, shopping and nightlife. (No online booking -- call or email to reserve)
Hotel de Nice (Doubles: €110 - €160)
Benefiting from a convenient Marais location opposite the Hotel de Ville, the two-star Hotel de Nice offers some flair (gold sashes and tassels), rooms overlooking a square, and decent rates. (Bookable online)
The Hotel de Nice provides sumptuous décor in the convenient Marais neighborhood.
Best cozy atmosphere
Cluny Sorbonne (Doubles: €70 - €98)
Run by the same family since 1976, the Cluny Sorbonne provides 23 modest but clean rooms directly across the street from the Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter. (Bookable online)
Hotel Jeanne d'Arc (Doubles: €92 - €116)
This 35-room charmer near the Place des Vosges in the Marais feels like a French country home with a slightly funky twist. (No online booking -- call or email to reserve)
